The National Chairman and former Presidential candidate of the National Action Council (NAC), Dr. Olapade Agoro, has written to President Muhammadu Buhari, asking him to extend the on-going fight against corruption to Nigeria’s traditional institutions.
Agoro in a letter dated April 11, 2017, noted that the “avowed seriousness to tackle the cankerworm evils of corruption in the society” would not be meaningful without the President beaming the search light on some traditional rulers.
According to the NAC’s National Chairman, who is also the Owa ‘Tapa of Itapa Ijesaland in Osun State, “there are some drug baron monarchs who should be investigated, striped of their titles and prosecuted.”
PMParrotng gathered that copies of the letter were also sent to Mr. Paul Thomas Arkwright, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria and Mr. W. Staurt Symington, the United States of America’s Ambassador to Nigeria.
In the said letter, Agoro specifically made reference to a prominent traditional ruler in the Southwest of Nigeria (name withheld), asking President Buhari to trace the source of the “fabulous wealth” of the foremost monarch that is said to be worth about US$ 600 million.
The letter reads in part: “Mr. President, Sir, if indeed you are serious addressing the issue of corruption in Nigeria to a standstill, your search light must be beamed at drug baron monarchs hiding in our palaces.”
