A chieftain of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ibadan South-West Local Government Area of Oyo state, Hon. Olumide Bello, has explained that the political party is a progressive party and more ideologically inclined than the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking with PMParrotng in Ibadan recently, the former candidate for the seat of Ibadan South-West constituency II in the Oyo State House of Assembly, also maintained that Engineer Seyi Makinde is the best candidate to occupy the Agodi, Ibadan Government House come 2019.
The grassroots politician revealed that many stakeholders in Oyo state politics have assured Engr. Makinde, who was the SDP’s governorship candidate in the state during the 2015 election that 2019 would be his own (Makinde’s) turn.
According to him, “the people of the state actually wanted Engr. Seyi Makinde to be their governor, but because they had made up their mind to vote for the APC in 2015, many stakeholders advised our governorship candidate to wait till 2019. They even promised to work for him come 2019.”
The SDP chieftain noted that Makinde possesses all the qualities needed in a good leader, and has prepared himself to bring about the desired human and infrastructural developments in Oyo state if given the opportunity in 2019.
On the reason why Makinde left the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Olu Bello explained that the SDP’s governorship candidate and thousands of his supporters decamped to the new party ahead of the 2015 general election because of perceived injustice in the PDP.
Speaking on his own political aspiration, Olu Bello maintained that God and people of Ibadan South-West constituency 11 will decide if he (Bello) will contest for the seat again in 2019, but expressed his readiness to serve his people in whatever capacity.
