Brightville College, Ibadan has emerged Oyo State winner of this year’s Copa Coca-cola Football Tourney after subduing the defending champion Asegun Comprehensive High school 3-1 via penalty shootout in the final match played on Friday at Wesley College Ibadan.
Olivet Baptist High School Oyo claimed the second runners-up position at the expense of Kishi Community Grammar School at the third-place match watched by mammoth crowd of secondary school students.
The sports officer of Oyo state Ministry of Education, Mr. Sunday Akinosun who is coordinating the Oyo State center of the tourney commended the orderly manner every participating schools conducted themselves during the event while lauding the sponsor (Coca-cola) for investing in the schools’ sport.
Reacting after the final match, the proprietor of Brightville, Dr. Isaac Friday Ogada assured on a good representation of the state at the national phase of the tourney, saying his boys would go into camping with the consent of their parents while the games’ master of his school would go back to the drawing board to fashion out better tactics.
He, however, commended the runner up, Asegun Comprehensive High School, describing them as a worthy defending champions and good representative of Ibadan less city.
Bronze and Silver medals with gift items were presented to the second runner-up and the runner-up respectively, while trophy was presented to the champion by the representative of the Oyo State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Hon. Yomi Oke.
