Super Eagles’ new boy, Victor Osimhen finally made his senior debut for his German Bundesliga side, VFL Wolfsburg on Saturday afternoon, four months after completing his transfer to the team.

The 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup Golden Shoe winner, who is in the senior Nigeria squad for the friendly with Corsica, made the much awaited debut when he was introduced in the 59th minute of Wolfsburg’s 1-1 draw with Borussia Moenchengladbach at the Volkswagen Arena.

Osimhen is highly rated by new Wolfsburg manager Andries Jonker and would have made his first-team bow before today’s game but fitness issues prevented him from doing so.

His best opportunity to score was in the 66th minute but he was ruled offside, before the referee stopped the match temporarily in the 79th minute due to adverse weather conditions.

Jannik Vestergaard opened the scoring for the visitors in the 24th minute, before Mario Gomez restored parity a minute before the introduction of Osimhen.

The 18-year-old striker however lamented his team’s 1-1 draw against Monchengladbach.

But he expressed confidence that Wolfsburg who are 15th on 37 points in the league table, two points off the relegation zone, can beat the drop

“Thanks to God for my debut, not the result we wanted but we keep our fingers crossed and fight till the end,” Osimhen wrote on his Instagram page.

“Thanks to the wonderful fans. And also I want to thank everyone who has been supporting me through the tough time. I really appreciate each and every one you, God bless.”
