2019 AFCON Qualifier: Rohr Drops Odey, Olatubosun From 23-Man List To Face South Africa

Super Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr has named a 23-man roster for the 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa in Uyo on June 10 with Nigeria Professional Football League players missing from the list.

The roll call, which is expected to be the final list of invitees for the qualifier was announced by the Nigeria Football Federation on Wednesday and MFM FC duo of Stephen Odey and Sikiru Olatubosun were dropped while 24-year-old Zamalek midfielder, Maroof Youssef was handed a surprise call-up.

Six players on the roster were not part of the team training camp in Corsica and Paris, while  Odey and Olatubosun  were dropped  despite training with the team.

The six players are Chippa United netminder Daniel Akpeyi, Zamalek’s Moroof Youssef, Chelsea loanee Kenneth Omeruo, Trabzonspor’s Eddy Onazi, Hapoel Beer Sheva midfielder John Ogu and Gent winger Moses Simon.

Chelsea right wing-back Victor Moses and Watford striker Isaac Success have been omitted from the squad list, and the Chinese-based players Obi Mikel, Brown Ideye and Odion Ighalo were snubbed by the German tactician.

A total of eight players are in search of their first appearance for the senior national team : Alampasu,  Ebuehi, Youssef, Awaziem, Mikel , Alhassan , Onyekuru and Osimhen.
