Nigeria Football Federation has ruled out any friendly match between the Super Eagles ahead their World Cup qualifier against Cameroon slated for September this year.
The technical crew headed by Gernot Rohr will not have the opportunity to correct their lapses against South Africa before the crucial World Cup qualifiers because there is no FIFA window for friendly before the game.
The Technical Committee of the Nigerian Federation had proposed for the national team facing a country with the same playing style as the Indomitable Lions during their meeting with the Minister of Youth and Sports Barrister Solomon Dalung on Tuesday but jettisoned the idea.
”We wanted to play a friendly before the World Cup qualifier against Cameroon but there is no FIFA window for friendly matches from now till August,” a member of NFF technical committee said.
”The coach has to adequately monitor the players he wants to invite. If you arrange a friendly match, you arrange it for yourself because the players are engaged.”
The Super Eagles surprisingly lost 2-0 to Bafana Bafana in their opening game in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers despite training for two weeks before the game in Uyo.
