Super Eagles captain, Mikel Obi has finally returned to active football as he featured in Tianjin Teda’s 2-0 defeat at home to Hebei CFFC in the Chinese Super League on Monday afternoon.
The former Chelsea player, who had been sidelined by injury since April 2 in Tianjin Teda’s 2-0 win over Chongqing Dangdai Lifan, played the whole duration of the game.
A goal in each half from Ezequiel Lavezzi condemned Tianjin Teda to their 12th defeat of the season and are in relegation troubles after winning only two games from a possible seventeen.
They remain second from bottom of the table on 15 points, just a point ahead of rock-bottom Yanbian Funde.
Super Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr is expected to announce his roster for the World Cup qualifier against the African champions this week and it is possible that former Obi Mikel will be named in the squad for the encounter in Uyo next month.
