The Speaker of Ekiti State’s House of Assembly, Right Honourable (Pastor) Kola Oluwawole, has described the commitment of the state governor, Mr Peter Ayodele Fayose, to cultural development and exploitation of the tourism potentials of the state as ‘unprecedented’

He also congratulated the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba (Dr) Rufus Adejugbe, on the occasion of the 2017 Udiroko annual festival, describing it as having witnessed never-seen-before development since the advent of the Fayose-led government.

According to a statement by the Speaker’s Special Assistant (Media), Stephen Gbadamosi, Oluwawole congratulated the monarch and the governor on the celebration of the Udiroko Day 2017, saying “Governor Fayose has displayed uncommon commitment to the development of the diverse cultures of the Ekiti people, as well as the enormous tourism potentials of the state,” adding that “the Udiroko festival is a very apt instance.”

“The governor has invested a lot in the promotion of our cultural heritage. This is evident in his support for the various annual days of our towns in the state. And that is why the Udiroko festival has now become one that corporate organizations are taking serious interest in and people all over the world look forward to. That, to me, is worthy of applause.

“Besides, the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba (Dr) Rufus Adejugbe’s tenure has witnessed remarkable development, not only in the celebration of the annual festival, but also in the overall development of the state capital. I have no doubt that this is what informed the monarch’s resolve to honour our leader, the amiable governor, with a traditional title during this year’s celebration. And I say congratulations to both the governor and the oba.

“While we congratulate the towns holding the annual days signposting their cultures, we urge our people to celebrate in moderation. It is on that note that I, on behalf of myself and the entire members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, felicitate with His Royal Majesty, the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba (Dr) Rufus Adejugbe, and the entire sons and daughters of Ado-Ekiti on the celebration of Udiroko Festival 2017.

“I also congratulate the wife of the Oba, the Eyesorun; other oloris and all the chiefs of the monarch for witnessing yet another edition of the cultural fiesta.

May our monarch celebrate many more of it on the throne in good health,” the lawmaker prayed.

The Ekiti Speaker admonished the people of the state, particularly indigenes of Ado-Ekiti to celebrate the fiesta with moderation and to desist from acts that were capable of casting the state in bad light in the presence of both national and international visitors, adding that “it is a cultural meet intended to sell the state and uphold its glory among the committee of states.”
