“The conferment of Obaship on 21 chiefs in Ibadanland by the Oyo State Government will not in any way put any additional financial burden on the State Government as against the insinuation and falsehood being peddled around by some opposition parties against the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state”.

This statement was made by the Caretaker Chairman of Ibadan South/West Local Government, Hon. Gbenga Opaleye while speaking with newsmen in his office over the weekend where he urged the populace of the state to turn a deaf ear to such assertion but to embrace the positive aspects of the development.

“All the traditional leaders get their monthly wages from the local government and we are yet to be briefed on any addition to whatever goes to each person, so I don’t see where the case of additional cost to the state government now comes in, the statements made by the opposition especially on the social media are figments of their imaginations and baseless”, Opaleye noted.

He also added that “it’s not the duty of the government to build palaces for the ‘smaller kings’ but the prerogative of their various communities to do so. The development has greatly added glamour to the stool of our Olubadan that is now a paramount ruler”.

“We are the ones closer to the grassroots and our people were quite happy with the decision and actions of the Governor, as people across my constituency are jubilating and hailing Senator Abiola Ajimobi for daring to implement what the previous governors had been dogging from”.

“If just one black-sheep refused to join the 21 beneficiaries that turned up to receive certificate of office at the government secretariat on Friday with joy and happiness,  then that was enough indication that the elevation is a welcome and accepted development with the Olubadan-In-Council”, Opaleye reiterated.
