Salvation Cup Tourney Commences In Ibadan, Ten Churches Vie For Honour

The much publicized Soccer for Christ otherwise known as Salvation Cup has kicked off in Ibadan at the Lekan Salami Sport’s Complex where ten teams from different Christian denominations are vying for honour.

The tourney according to the organizers, Oyo State Football Association and NITO Sports, is to use the popular game of soccer to win souls for Christ and positively engage and draw the teeming youths closer to God.

Among the participants in the maiden soccer championship are Molete Baptist Church FC, St. Gabriel Catholic Church FC, Mokola, Worldwide Outreach Mission FC, The Stone Church FC and Triumphant FC, all in group ‘A’ of the tourney.

While Samuel Oluniyi Evangelistic Ministry (SOEM) FC, Restoration Chapel FC, The Rock Baptist FC, Apata, CAC Agbala Itura FC and Calvary Covenant Bible Church FC are locking horns in the group ‘B’ to know who qualifies for the knockout stage of the tourney.

Worldwide Outreach Mission defeated Molete Baptist Church by a lone goal in the Opening match while SOEM FC demolished The Rock Baptist Church FC by 4 goals to nil in the second game of the day as St. Gabriel also fell to the superior firepower of the Stone Church with three un-replied goals just as CAC Agbala Itura secured a victory through a walkover after the Restoration Chapel failed to show up.
