PMParrot investigation revealed that the problem started on Tuesday, October 3 when customers besieged the different branches of the bank in Ibadan to transact businesses after the Independence Anniversary holiday.

A customer who craved anonymity told PMParrot “the problem started during the Independence holiday weekend when GTB’s ATMs refused to recognize our ATM Cards. I met with other customers who also experienced card failure. We packed ourselves in two cars and started going from one branch of the bank in Ibadan to the other looking for any of their ATMs that would ‘recognise’ our cards.

“However, on Tuesday when work resumed, my own card started working again as I collected money from the Lister, Ring Road branch.”

An official of the bank who spoke with us informed that the problem is that of network.

Said the official who refused to tell us his name “Lagos is aware of our problem and the issue is being seriously attended to. Our customers should not panic. Things will soon be okay. Customers with cheque books should visit branches to carry out transactions.”

As at the time of putting this story together, long queues could still be noticed inside the banking hall in the bank’s Lister, Ring Road branch.
