Super Eagles have dedicated their ticket to next year’s World Cup to Carl Ikeme who is undergoing chemotherapy for leukemia.
It took a 72nd minute strike off the right boot of 21-year-old forward, Alex Iwobi to settle a nervy contest.
Speaking after Saturday’s victory, Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr revealed the team won for the 31-year-old goal keeper.
Rohr said the team promised Ikeme a win and the world cup ticket after a telephone chat on the eve of the game.
“From day one, our goalkeeper Ikeme (Carl) kept us in this race to qualify for Russia. In Ndola, he made great saves to help us come through with a win.
“He spoke with the captain and the whole team and we promised him, we’ll win and qualify.
“So this win is for Ikeme, this qualification is for our goalkeeper.’ Rohr stressed at the post match presser.”
