The Chairman, Nigerian Bar Association, Ibadan Branch, Barrister Akeem Agbaje has urged members of the bar and staff of the judiciary to avoid actions that contribute to unnecessary delay in the delivery of judgment in law courts.
Barrister Agbaje gave the admonition in his goodwill message during the celebration of the 2017/2018 annual Legal Year, held at Ibadan Central Mosque, Oja’ba recently.
He noted that many factors are contributing to the delay in the determination of cases in the court, which he attributed partly to judiciary officers (registrars and bailiffs), and partly to the members of the bar (lawyers).
Barrister Agbaje enjoined the leadership of the judiciary to ensure that any erring officer is held accountable for the performance of his duties and sanctioned when necessary. He also advised his colleagues on the need to operate within the ambit of justice, and avoid any action that can affect speedy delivery of justice.
In the same vein, Chairman, Muslim Lawyer’s Association of Nigerian (MULAN), Oyo State Barrister Akeem Adekola Adetunji has called on the government at various levels to see to the yearning of the people of the country.
Barrister Adetunji pointed out that factors such as mismanagement and misappropriation of public funds, bribery and corruption, high level crime, moral decadence and other social vices contributed to the present situation in the country.
He thereby submitted that it is the collective responsibility of governments and the people to redeem the image of the country.
The chairmen, therefore, commended the Oyo state judiciary under the leadership of the Chief Judge, Justice Munta Abimbola for excellent performance with landmark reforms within the short time in spite of the limited resources available.
