A truck belonging to a bore-hole drilling company lost its brakes on Monday morning and crashed into the building that accommodates the corporate offices of PMParrot.com and Parrot Xtra Magazine at Oni & Sons’ Bus Stop, Ring Road, Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State.

Though no live was lost, three of the occupants were said to have been injured with one on danger list.

One of our reporters who arrived at the scene moments after it occurred, got an eye witness to give accounts of what happened.

“The truck was coming from the High Court side going towards Oluyole Estate on the Old Ring Road. There were five persons – two were at the back monitoring the borehole compressor it was ferrying while the driver and the remaining two were in the cabin of the truck. One was a lady.

“When the brakes failed, one of the Motor Boys at the back jumped to safety. The other, Seun could not. He ended up under the fallen truck. The driver, in his wisdom decided to stop the runaway truck by swerving into the building housing PMParrot. It entered a popular restaurant, Pounded Yam Empire, and destroyed so many things.

Our eye witness continued “When the dust settled, one of the Motor Boys was under the truck, the driver and another young man were seriously injured and taken to Ibadan Central Hospital, Ososami by dutiful officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) who were on patrol.

“Even then, Seun, the Motor Boy who was underneath the truck was pulled out after he had spent almost 45 minutes. We could not find any way of pulling him out. It was only when an heavy duty towing vehicle arrived that we got the load on him shifted and he was taken to Ibadan Central Hospital at Ososami alongside two others.

Oomor House, the affected building has been experiencing this kind of mishap almost on yearly basis.

Residents of the area informed PMParrot that efforts are on by the executives of the community’s Landlords’ Association to reach out to the government, especially, the Ibadan South West Local Government to install speed breakers on the road.
