Ex-military president, Ibrahim Babangida’s spokesman, Kassim Afegbua, Wednesday reported to the Force Headquarters in Abuja but was released has been released after a short interrogation.
Afegbua, who was accompanied by his wife and his lawyer, Kayode Ajulo, told journalists that the police said he was not under arrest.
He explained that the police simply informed him that there was a mix-up in the statements he issued on behalf of the ex-dictator.
The IBB media aide was released after about two hours.
The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, had ordered Afegbua’s arrest for “making false statements, defamation of character, and for an act capable of inciting public disturbance.”
The order for the arrest of the former journalist followed two statements purportedly written by the former military dictator, which bordered on the 2019 elections, herdsmen/farmers’ crisis and other issues plaguing the nation.
