A member of Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon Ademola Ige has described the return of Shooting Stars to elites division as a must, calling on all and sundry to rally round the club and leave the task to its management alone.
The lawmaker representing Ibadan South/East Constituency 2 made the call while flagging off a soccer tournament organised by National Association of Primary School Games Teacher (NAPGAST) for public primary schools in whole of Ibadan South/East.
Hon. Ige thumped up the management of 3SC for coming up with idea of establishing a standard Football Academy and announced a full scholarship for 20 public primary school pupils that distinguished themselves in the tourney into the newly established 3SC Football Academy.
“This is where and how we started to play football, but we did not get any encouragement from any quarter to help us pursue a career in football, Ige noted adding that “the idea of 3SC Academy is a commendable one and part of efforts to revamp the traditional club sides, we should all join hands to reposition 3SC, and restore its lost glories.
“This arena was where the likes of Dele Ajiboye, Ganiyu Oseni, Demola Kudaisi and many more were discovered. This is another process to fish out the generationext soccer stars”, the lawmaker enthused.
The grassroots football competition which was bankrolled by Hon Ige is being played on the turf of Wesley College Elekuro Ibadan where pupils from public primary schools are vying to win laurels and grab the scholarships at stake.
Coaches attached to the Shooting Star’s Soccer School, are closely monitoring the tournament according to the head coach 3SC Academy, Lawal Abiodun Udi to scout for talented and trainable pupils worthy of the scholarship.
