Super Falcons head coach, Thomas Dennerby has hailed the efforts of his ladies in the opening game of the ongoing WAFU tournament.

Dennerby stated that the victory is good for the team’s confidence having stayed apart for a longer period of time.

Midfielder Peace Efih grabbed a late winner for Nigeria in the 1-0 victory against a resilient Mali team in their opening Group B game at the WAFU Women’s Cup of Nation in Abidjan on Thursday

Speaking after the encounter in Abidjan, the Swedish-born tactician expressed his delight in seeing the ladies put up a good display in the game against Mali.

“The victory is good for the confidence of the team, they ‘ve done a very good job,” Dennerby stated.

Mali, who stepped in after Benin withdrew, arrived in Abidjan on Wednesday evening, less than 24 hours to the match.

The two met last in the group stage of the 2016 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) where Nigeria strolled to a 6–0 win over Mali.

Earlier, Senegal pummeled Togo 6-0 in the other Group B game.
