Two Lawmakers in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Ademola Akeem Ige representing Ibadan South East Constituency II and Hon. Gbenga Joseph Oyekola representing the Atiba State constituency have been formally inducted into the Hall of Fame as the Excellency Ambassador of Ethics and Conscience by a Lokoja based Non Governmental Organization, Centre for Ethics and Self Value Evaluation (CESVO).
The induction/investiture ceremony which was held at the Parliament Building, Secretariat, Ibadan also featured the issuance of Legislator’s performance appraisals score cards and Gold Medals to the two Lawmakers, Hon. Ige who scored 78% and Hon. Oyekola, 77% to emerge amongst the first 100 highly rated most ethically responsible state Legislators in Nigeria, 2017, due to their past and present antecedents.
The said NGO, Centre for Ethics and Self Value Evaluation, is a non-state-actor it majors in exposing corruption, promoting ethical leadership, providing ethical education and value orientation of global citizens which it does annually by engaging in annual secret independent assessment project to both federal, States, local Government areas and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with a view to conducting an independent multi-sectoral secret assessment project on public officials without their prior knowledge to avoid any possible influence on their work.
Speaking at the induction ceremony, the Executive Director CESVO, Prince Salih Musa Yakubu explained that at the end of year 2017 assessment carried out by the CESVO, 50 Tertiary institutions, 12 Commissioners and senior officers of the police, 50 federal MDAs,13 Senators, 38 honourable members of the House of Representatives, 50 private hospitals, six state House of Assemblies with 100 individual state legislators among others emerged most ethically responsible organizations/individuals including the said two Oyo Lawmakers.
According to him, “we have ensured presence in most of your programmes and activities and sampled opinions and interviewed the citizens including workers on your stewardship so far as members of the state assembly. We have been keeping close watch on your quality service delivery. From our findings, you have used character to change the pattern of representation of the people the type exemplified by our heroes past.
“We are indeed overwhelmed by your people’s testimonies of your leadership style and your recommendations during our field work at your constituency. We have interviewed market women, the artisans, the security personnel, the students of both secondary and tertiary institutions, the leadership of women and youth organizations, other non indigenous men and women residing in your constituency including traditional title holders.”
In their different remarks at the occasion, the Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji(Aje Ogunguniso 1) who was represented by Mr Adeola Oloko, Oba Yoruba Republic of Ireland, Oba Saheed Olamilekan Ibrahim Adufe (Orilobamise 1), Deputy State Chairman of PDP in Oyo State, Alhaji (Hon.) Mufutau Ogunremi, Chairman Ibadan Week Festival 2018, Asiwaju Nurudeen Akinade and a Senior Lecturer from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Dr Saheed Adetunmbi Ige eulogised the two awardees for embarking upon humanitarian services and providing quality representatives to the people in their respective constituencies.
Responding on behalf of the awardees, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola commended the organization for finding them worthy for the award bestowed on them which he said was as a result of their resolved to making life more better for the people they were representing, adding that they would not relent in their efforts at improving the lives of the people.
He promised that they would contribute their quota to promote and encourage the organization’s effort at promoting core value system geared towards eradicating corruption in the country.
