Super Eagles striker, Olanrewaju Kayode, has admitted that he found the Spanish LaLiga Santander too tough to cope with when he joined Girona at the start of the season.
Kayode failed to score for Girona in 13 games in all competitions before seeking a move away from the club to Ukrainian top division side, Shakhtar Donetsk, last month.
The 24 year old striker told Shakhtar Donetsk’s official website that he is looking forward to training with his new teammates after arriving at the club on Thursday.
“Yes, I played a bit in Spain recently, experiencing a tough moment in my career. I consulted my family, and my wife supported the decision of joining Shakhtar,” Kayode told Shakhtar Donetsk’s official website.
“I think that’s the right choice. I just can’t wait for training and my debut.
“From year to year, I’ve been hearing increasingly more about Shakhtar and following them. The Miners constantly take part in the Champions League.
“I like the football style they display. They are a top club. These days, everyone in Europe knows Shakhtar, so I’m happy to be part of the team.”
Kayode also says that he is looking forward to playing with his new Shakhtar Donetsk teammates.
“They are great players. I am a striker as well, so we all will try to benefit Shakhtar. Joining this team is a great experience for me! I will try hard to do my job well.
“When I used to play for Austria (Wien), we had a friendly match against Shakhtar. I didn’t play back then, but I know Fred, Marlos, Bernard. I’ve seen many games – they have just fantastic players here.”
