The Ogun State House of Assembly says the speedy passage of the State Administration of Criminal Justice bill is part of the Legislature’s unrelenting quest to fast-track the process of justice dispensation and administration in the State.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon Suraju Ishola Adekunbi stated this during an advocacy visit by members of the Foundation for Justice and Rehabilitation of Prisoners led by its Executive Director, Comrade Kushimo Olumuyiwa at the Assembly Complex, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.
Adekunbi, represented by his Deputy, Olakunle Oluomo explained that the bill when signed into law by the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun would place the State on an enviable height in the comity of States in justice delivery, adding that it would promote effective service delivery, while reducing the workload on the judicial arm of government.
The Speaker assured that the Assembly remained irrevocably committed to its quasi-judicial functions, by giving the citizenry unhindered access to justice through promotion of equity and fairness in the justice administration in the State.
Earlier in his remarks, Comrade Olumuyiwa said that the foundation was committed to partnering with the State government towards creating a veritable mechanism for prison reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration through effective implementation of the Administration of Criminal Justice bill when signed into law by the Governor.
He commended the leadership of the Assembly for the enactment of people-oriented legislations, especially the State Administration of Criminal Justice and People with Disability Bills, which according to him had given succor to the downtrodden.
In the same vein, the Speaker played host to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Anti-corruption Community Development (CDC) group, Abeokuta South Local Government led by Kabeer Adebayo and Road Safety Community Development Club led by Ejikam Leo, where he opined that there was hope for the nation, if the youth could challenge citizens with ill-gotten wealth, pointing out that not all politicians are corrupt.
He enjoined the Road Safety Club to embark on more sensitization programme for the youth and students in the State to promote awareness through sensitization programmes to educate road users to promote safe motoring.
The Assembly also charged the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ogun West Chapter led by its Vice President, Comrade Olusesan Olatunji, to always promote peace and progress by being politically neutral during electioneering periods.
