Chief Ebenezer Babatope, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party has identified the reasons why Senator Iyiola Omisore, a gubernatorial candidate of the party in Osun State during the last general elections will not leave the party.

He said the party will stop Senator Iyiola Omisore from leaving the party because “he is invaluable member of the party.”

Babatope stated this in an interview with the media in Osogbo on Friday.

The politician, who is a former Minister of Transport said the PDP would do every legitimate thing to wrest power from the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state in the forthcoming governorship election.

The former Director of Organisation of the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria, however, lauded Governor Rauf Aregbesola, who is from Ilesa just like him, saying the governor had impressed him.

He nevertheless insisted that the PDP was determined to return to power in the state.

He called on members of the party to embrace peace and unity in order to defeat the ruling party.

Babatope said, “Senator Omisore is a valuable member of our party. We are going to reconcile him with the party and everybody. We are not giving up on him. We will talk to him and we are confident that he will listen to us. We have even started talking to him and we are sure that by the time we finish the dialogue, all aggrieved members will be appeased.”

Apart from Omisore, Babatope said all those who left the party in 2013, including the President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, would be encouraged to return to their political family.

He, however, said the PDP would not absolutely depend on its former members to win the general elections but said they would be welcomed if they decide to return to where they left.

Meanwhile, a professor of Political Science, who is the Provost of the College of Social and Management Sciences, Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, Adeolu Durotoye, has declared his intention to contest the governorship poll in the state on the platform of the PDP.

Durotoye, a former journalist, said he had to present himself to serve the people because of the precarious situation the state had found itself.

The lecturer said it was unfortunate that the Aregbesola administration was not paying workers’ salaries regularly and had not met other important obligations.
