All is now set for the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN Commission) to host its ever inspiring Yoruba Historical Conversation on Friday, April 27, where several issues on Yoruba culture are thrown up and discussed.
PMParrot gathered from the Cocoa House, Ibadan office of DAWN Commission that arrangements have been finalized to host Chief Lekan Alabi, a senior Ibadan Chief and Press Secretary to four governors in Oyo State. He was also a Corporate Affairs Director at Oodua Investments Company Limited before he retires a few years back.
This edition, which hold inside the House of Chiefs, located within the Oyo State Secretariat Complex in Ibadan will start by 9.30 am.
One of the organizers also submitted that “we have had the honour of hosting Professors Bolanle Awe, Banji Akintoye, Siyan Oyeweso, Akinjide Osuntokun, Adelola Adeloye, Isaac Albert, Anthony Asiwaju and Wale Oyemakinde in previous editions of the Conversation.
For the next edition, Oloye ‘Lekan Alabi, a cultural ambassador with unparalleled knowledge and contribution to the history of Yorubaland is expected to speak on the topic: Ibadan And The Dawn Of Renewed Prosperity In Yorubaland.
“As a Commission, we are concerned about the loss of our social orientation and heritage, especially the preservation of our history. The neglect of the teaching of history and the lack of a sense of history has combined to create generation with very scant regard for our values. We recognize that only a social revolution can assist in the much-needed recovery, and we are prepared to champion the process.
The Yoruba Historical Conversations, with the broad theme: Our History, Our Future, is therefore part of the Commission’s initiative designed to assist the present generation of Nigerians, especially of Yoruba origin, to have a clear understanding of their history, what it means to develop and sustain a high sense of the correct values and ideals.
