Shoreline Polo Team has emerged the winners of the maiden Disability Challenge Cup Polo Tourney organized by Non Governmental Organistion Christ Foundation in partnership with Ibadan Polo Club after Shoreline Polo defeated Remita Polo Team by 5 ½ to 5 in a five chukka polo match at the Polo Ground, Eleyele Ibadan recently.
The game which was galloped-off by a physical challenged person, Bukola Akande, Assistant Director of Social Welfare, Oyo State, also offered physically challenged people present the opportunity to watch the one day polo tournament that was dubbed as Game of Kings and King of Games.
The tournament also gave chance for physically challenged people to show their skills.
While speaking with newsmen, Sola Ogundola of Christ Foundation said, “this is the first time of watching live polo match, I am highly delighted to be here today, this game has put smile on my face and to other physically challenged people like me that are present, we thank Ibadan Polo Club for giving us this opportunity by partnering with Christ Foundation, we hope such event will continue and be a yearly event.’’
The chairman of the event Architect Muyiwa Ige, in his remarks thanked the President of the foundation for the care and support the foundation has been giving to people that are disabled and physically challenged in the society, he also applauded Ibadan polo club members, board of trustees and executives for partnering the foundation and supporting, while expressing his joy over the provision of accessible platform in the club house which makes it easier for people with disability to access the club with wheel chairs.
The former president of the club, however, urged Government to enact laws that will protect the rights of people that are physically challenged in the society, while he conducted fundraising to support various charity projects of The Christ Foundation. Members of Ibadan Polo Club, visiting players and guests took part in the fundraising.
Wale Adediji, the President of the foundation thanked the major sponsors of the event SystemSpes (Remits), Shorline group, the invited guests, Polo players, Trustees and Ibadan Polo Club for supporting the charity organization.
