Embattled Kogi State Senator, Dino Melaye was on Tuesday, visited at the National Hospital, Abuja by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Yakubu Dogara.

The Speaker visited Melaye in company with the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Yussuff Lasun; the Deputy House Minority Whip, Binta Bello, and other members of the House.

A statement by the Speaker’s media office said a former Speaker of the House, Patricia Etteh,  and the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Jaf Momoh, received  Dogara’s entourage on arrival.

Melaye, an Etteh disciple, served as the Chairman, House Committee on Information while Etteh was the Speaker briefly in the 6th Assembly.

The statement said Dogara offered prayers for Melaye’s quick recovery.

It was silent on Melaye’s response or the actions of other persons, who went to the hospital with Dogara.

The senator representing Kogi-West Senatorial District is under medical care at the hospital on the orders of a Kogi State High Court.

He has had a running battle with the Nigeria Police over an alleged gunrunning offence and the recruitment of thugs to cause mayhem in Kogi State.

The police also filed a separate case of attempted suicide against Melaye before an Abuja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Melaye was accused of jumping off a bus and trying to take his own life after his alleged escape bid failed.

The police soon rearrested him after the court granted him bail in the sum of N90m.

Meanwhile, members of the Peoples Democratic Party in the Western Senatorial District of Kogi State have resolved to commence a legal action on the malpractices that allegedly manifested during the recently concluded recall process conducted on the tenure of Melaye, on April 28, 2018, by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

In a communique signed by the senatorial chairman, Taiwo Kola-Ojo, after a meeting held in Kabba, the Kogi West PDP leaders said they were shocked to discover that the data and signatures displayed by INEC during the recall process were those of the party members, who never at any time signed the petition against the senator.
