The much talked about launching of books authored by a senior Academic Technologist at the Biological Science Department of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ogun State has come and gone but the memories still linger.
It was a day the creamiest in the society gathered at Providence Centre, Moshood Abiola Way in Abeokuta, the capital city of Ogun State to witness the celebration of intellectual prowess and unveiling of books, Your Health: A Prior Responsibility and A Guild to Practical Biology and Microbiology authored by Mrs. Adesola Azeez.
A member, House of Representatives, Ladi Adebutu and Navy Captain Rasheed Raji (Rtd) and Hon. Isiaq Abiola Adeleke led the team of launchers.
Other major launchers included Engr. Tunde Sogbaike, Hon. Victor Fasanya, Dr. Mope Deji-Agboola, Prof. Olugbemiga Oworu and Dr. (Mrs.) ‘Bimpe Egberongbe.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology in the State, who was represented at the event by Mr. Wale Adebowale, commended the author for her perseverance and effort to raise the bar of academic standard.
The Commissioner advised the author to submit the books to the state’s Ministry of Education, Science and Technology for the purpose of review, particularly in the ongoing book review in the state.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Tayo Showumi said he was not surprised over the author’s intellectual ability to come out with two books at a time. He attributed the success to the good foundation and high level of discipline of the author.
Alhaji Showumi lauded the launchers for laying a good foundation for Ikimot Azeez to contribute more of her efforts towards the development of education in the state and country at large.
Prof. O. B. Kehinde of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta who reviewed the 114-page book, “A Guide to Practical Biology and Microbiology”, commended the efforts of Mrs. Azeez (nee Bakenne), who had her first degree in Biochemistry and Masters Degree in Medical Microbiology from the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ogun State for her contribution to the study of Biology, Microbiology and Biotechnology, especially the practical aspect of the field of study.
He explained that the book presented various methods of laboratory practice in a concise manner that will make it easy to comprehend. Prof. Kehinde also added that in order to clearly outline the procedures involved and instruments used in laboratory techniques, diagrams, pictures and annotations were employed to assist in comprehending the concept.
The University don further established that the book is a compendium of many laboratory practices which are usually carried out by science students in higher institutions and research as well as diagnostic laboratories.
The author, Mrs. Ikimot Azeez gave the glory to almighty Allah for the success of the books, she attributed the success to the support and understanding of her husband, Engr. Babatunde Azeez, who she described as the pillar of her achievement.
Mrs. Azeez, while thanking everybody for the support both in kind and in cash, noted further that the foundation she just laid will serve as motivation for her to come up with more better books.
In their separate comments, the parents of the author, Alhaji Hon. Fasiu Bakenne and Alhaja Subuola, appreciated God for the success of the programme.
Hon. Bakenne, who was a two-time Member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, said that it is imperative for parents to serve as a motivating factor for their children for them to be successful in life.
He charged youths to dedicate more of their time to endeavours that will bring benefit and meaningful development to their life.
Alhaja Subuola Bakanne added that the success of her daughter, Ikimot was as a result of support and understanding she enjoyed from her husband. She prayed that God almighty should continue to be with their family.
Highlights of the event included the unveiling and presentation of the two books by dignitaries and a short drama by the students of Tai Solarin University of Education.
