The first Vice-President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Seyi Akinnwumi, says there is no iota of truth in the rumour making the rounds that the body is reeling in disunity as the Super Eagles struggle to impress.
Akinwunmi, who is the head of Nigerian delegation to the 2018 FIFA World Cup, told journalists in Saint Petersburg Russia that the NFF recently resolved a mild administratve issue inhouse which was mispresented but the rumour mill after the Super Eagles lost their first Group D match of the 2018 FIFA World Cup to Croatia in Kaliningrad.
“The truth is that there is no crisis within the board of the NFF,” Akinwunmi stated during a press conference at Park Inn in Saint Petersburg.
“As you would expect in a family, there may be issues, but the good thing is that we iron them out and we bond together as a family.
“Even on Monday, we all came together and watched the matches together at our hotel; there is no crisis. I don’t want to think some section of the media derives joy in reporting about crisis just because it sells.
“We are NFF and not Russia Football Federation and the issue of elections is not something we are concerned with at this World Cup; I’m surprised to hear that some persons are already campaigning but to who? I’m going to be part of those who are going to vote at the elections but nobody has campaigned to me here.
“Personally, I think this issue of elections in a World Cup year does not augur well for our football; but as I said, our focus is to ensure Super Eagles success in Russia and not about elections at all.”
