The month of August is here again – it is this same august month that God, in His mercy gave the divine approval for the Parrot Project to take off. As it is normal in life, the ups and downs have been there for us as a corporate entity to contend with. Somehow, we have been able to keep our heads above the murky waters of publishing.
The first day saw us struggling with how to keep the focus and secure the financial muscle to sustain publishing. We have since grown beyond that to know that running a website is more tasking than phyisic printing.
All in all, we cannot but continue to be appreciative of the efforts of family members, staff members, friends and admirers who ensured that the Parrot Project is kept alive till today.
Specifically, we must mention here for the first time that certain individuals and institution were used by God to ensure that the Parrot Project did not die on arrival after perfecting the ideological focus via the likes of Dr Dayo Olomu, Lanre Alabi and Akin Adelegan 14 years ago.
Notable among them was Mr Godwin Mekwuye of Vivid Imagination in Lagos and Alhaji Hassan Taiwo Fatungase also a Lagos based businessman. And from Ibadan end, we must not fail to mention late Alhaji Lamidi Onaolapo Adesina, the enigmatic former governor of Oyo State. A friend of the house and Tourism Editor at the Nigerian Tribune, Wale Ojo Lanre played a yeoman’s role to get the duo of Engineer Femi Babalola and Senator Gbenga Babalola to support and prevent the project from dying pre-maturedly. The present Governor of Oyo State, then a Senator, Abiola Ajimobi must be hailed too. Special mention must be made of Mr Olanrewaju Agiri, our Sports Editor for obvious reason. Architect Muyiwa Ige also must be recognised here as well as Semiu Adenekan (DJ Semight). We thank all these great Nigerians for their roles 14 years ago. The management of African Newspapers, publishers of Nigerian Tribune at that time must also be appreciated. Despite all the odds, printing our PMParrot Evening Newspaper was almost seamless.
We thank our past and present advertisers, supporters and admirers too numerous to mention here too. Thank you all.
We must not fail to mention here that our sojourn in the past 14 years could have been less tortuous if certain parameters had been in place. Readers should permit us to use this opportunity to call on governments at all levels in Nigeria to be focused on how to provide enabling environment for businesses of whatever scale to thrive. This is the only way the country can survive.
