CAA Names Okagbare, 11 Other Nigerian Athletes For IAAF Continental Cup

The Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) has named Blessing Okagbare -Ighoteguenor and 11 other Nigerian athletes among the 77 to represent the continent at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Continental Cup scheduled to hold from September 8 to September 9 in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

According to several online reports, The 21st African Senior Championships in Asaba from August 1 to 5 was used to select the squad consisting of 20 athletes from South Africa, 16 from Nigeria, nine from Kenya, six from Morocco, with Egypt and four from Ethiopi.

Okagbare who helped Nigeria to a gold medal in the 4x100m women’s relay event at the just concluded African Senior Athletics Championship in Asaba, Delta State is joined by Tobi Amusan who won gold in the hurdles event.

Others are; Glory Nathaniel (400m hurdles, 4x400m), Grace Anigbata (triple jump), Temilola Ogunrinde (hammer), Kelechi Nwanaga (javelin), (4x100m), Joy Udo-Gabriel (4x100m), Rosemary Chukwuma (4x100m), Ese Brume (long jump), Chioma Onyekwere (discus), Divine Oduduru (men’s 200m), Abejoye Oyeniyi (110m hurdles) and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi (shot put).

Yinka Ajayi and Mercy Ntia-Obong were named as reserves in the women’s 4x400m and 4x100m relay teams, while Chidi Okezie was selected as a reserve in the men’s 4x400m.

Other athletes were picked from Botswana, Burkina Faso, Tunisia, Algeria, Cameroon, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Burundi, Swaziland, Uganda and Djibouti.
