Super Eagles skipper, captain Mikel Obi is happy to see youngsters being gradually introduced into the Nigeria national team set-up.
Super Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr recently announced 24 players for the upcoming 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Seychelles.
Golden Eaglets’ Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup-winning captain, Kelechi Nwakali, who is on loan to Portuguese champions FC Porto from English giants Arsenal, has been included in the Nigeria squad.
Mikel stated that the invitation of Nwakali by Rohr is a step in the right direction, adding that it shows how the coach has an eye on the Eagles’ future.
“Rohr has his eyes on the future despite the pressure on him to succeed in the immediate,” Mikel said.
“Nwakali is a future project and hopefully he will come good because he has the ability to succeed in a not too distant future.
“I was a little bit younger when I broke into the senior national team of Nigeria and that helped me in my career,” he added.
“My early introduction into the national team also means I didn’t look out of place when I became a senior player.”
The encounter between Nigeria and Seychelles will be played at the Stade Linite on the Mahe island next week Saturday.
