Members of the Ogun State House of Assembly have contributed immensely to the success of free qualitative education programme of the present administration in the State through the facilitation of infrastructure and equipment to schools in their various constituencies.Â
The Speaker, Rt Hon Suraju Ishola Adekunbi, stated this while playing host to the members of the Committee on Campaign for Alma Mater Endowments led by its Chairman, Alhaji Rasaq Ikupoliyi at the Assembly Complex Oke-mosan, Abeokuta.
Adekunbi represented by his Deputy, Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, recalled that lawmakers in the State had at different times facilitated construction of blocks of classrooms, equipment and other educational materials as well as scholarship programmes for students to aid teaching and learning process, saying that there was need for all and sundry to support the alma mater endowment programme.
He assured that the State lawmakers would collaborate with the Committee to ensure more advocacy and sensitization to further promote the development of education sector in the State.
Earlier in his address, the Chairman of the Campaign for Alma Mater Endowment, Alhaji Ikupoliyi, noted that Educational Initiative for Development in Western Nigeria is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) which emerged from the concerns of a very small group in addressing the myriads of problems of the society which could be traceable to the decadent state of formal education with a view to addressing the challenges of the sector through the mobilization of public interest and resources.
According to him, the objective of the Committee was to assist in the development of sector in all public schools by reaching out to the grassroot
mobilizers to mobilise communities to join the crusade through the various committees.
“This campaign is quite capable of generating large sums of money per annum in Ogun State into the Primary and Secondary School system alone. Agriculture, ICT, Vocational Education, Sport, to mention a few, are key benefiting areas of emphasis to ensure wholesome education as we used to have it”.
“This is a rare opportunity to address such problems as unemployment, crime and unhealthy rural – urban drift which are major considerations. We therefore believe this is a good cause worthy of your gracious support in every possible way”, he stated.
Meanwhile, a bill titled HB No 032/OG/2018: Gateway Polytechnic Igbesa ( Amendment) Law, 2018 today passed through first reading on the floor of the State House of Assembly.
The bill was read for the first time by the Clerk of the Assembly, Engr Lanre Bisiriyu at the plenary presided over by Speaker Suraju Ishola Adekunbi.
In the same vein, a Technical Session for the Ogun State House of Assembly to review and adapt the draft Legislative/ Legal framework and guidelines for the implementation of Financial Autonomy for the House would hold tomorrow, Wednesday 5th of August, 2018 at 9.00am prompt at the Assembly Complex Oke-mosan, Abeokuta.
