Honourable Taiwo Michael Akintola, a member of the House of Representatives in the National Assembly, Abuja, representing Egbeda/Onaara Federal Constituency of Oyo State on Monday inaugurated two completed Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) projects in his constituency area.

The two projects are a block of three classrooms each built at the Community Primary School, Garage, Olorunsogo in Onaara Local Government Area, and the Community Primary School, Alaase-Olaoluwa in Ona Ara Local Government Area.

Speaking during the inauguration of the SDG projects, Honourable Akintola, a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said when he was elected into the National Assembly, he made a vow to assist his constituency area in the area of education.

Honourable Akintola, who is seeking reelection into the House of Representatives in 2019,  said the two inaugurated projects were part of the eight school projects he embarked upon to contribute his quota to the development of the education sector in his constituency area.

“The classrooms, which are fully equipped with desks and benches, would make learning more conducive for pupils of the schools.

“I want to ensure that public schools in my constituency area are up to standard, and I want to say that most great people in the country today attended public schools, but we need to continually do our best to improve the standard of education,” Honourable Akintola said.

While appreciating Honourable Akintola for the gesture, the Chairman of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) at Community Primary School, Olorunsogo, Mr Olubode Olupoju, said the new block of classrooms would improve learning in the school.

The chairman of the Olaoluwa Community Landlords’ Association, Mr Sikiru Moradeyo, while lamenting what the school went through before Honourable Akintola came to their assistance, said the community had begun constructing some classrooms, “but when we reached out to Honourable Akintola, he surprised us by constructing the block of three classrooms for us, fully equipped with desks and chairs.

“Honourable Akintola has equally promised us 10 bundles of roofing sheets to complete the classrooms the community is constructing,” Mr Moradeyo said.

Of great importance during the inauguration was the decision of Honourable Akintola to visit the Omi River in Ona Ara Local Government, where he has instituted a Federal Government-led project to construct a dam to irrigate farms, as well as generate electricity.

On this project, Honourable Akintola said about 10,000 hectares of farmland would be irrigated when the project is completed, while also generating electricity.

“This project, which will be funded by the Federal Government and some donor agencies, would go a long way in boosting agriculture in the area,” Honourable Akintola said.

Among those at the inauguration were political and community leaders in the constituency area, including Chief Kamoru Kayode Obisesan, the ADC party chairman in Egbeda; Amusat Tawaliu Olawale, the party chairman in Ona Ara, Honourable Olukayode Bola Fawole, Mr Yemi Akinwale JP, among others.
