The management of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), has requested for the postponement of their Bet9ja Nigeria National League (NNL) B1 game against Bendel Insurance FC scheduled to hold on Wednesday in Benin City.

This, according to 3SC became necessary as all 22 players in the camp after their supper on Monday night landed in hospital as a result of food poisoning.

According to the Media Officer of 3SC, Jubril Arowolo, the players were rushed to hospital about 11:00 pm on Monday following the incident.

He stated that the team has informed the NNL management of the incident officially and as a result, sought postponement of tomorrow’s (Wednesday) clash with ‘Benin Arsenals’, which is the last game of the season.

Arowolo added that medical personnel attending to the players have sent the specimens of food consumed by the players to laboratory for further examinations.

“Our players are serious in pain and won’t be okay to play the match in Benin. In fact, the cause of the food poisoning can’t be ascertained now, but it could be as a result of vegetable served the players during their supper,” he added.

Meanwhile, Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Barrister Yomi Oke while speaking with Tribunesport described the incident as a sad one.

“I was very devasted when the news came to me around 11.30pm on Monday that the players had been rushed to the casualty department of the hospital. They are still in the hospital for proper medical attention and I hope they will get better as soon as possible,” Oke said.
