Fayemi’s Government To Produce Extra Copies Of GBV Prohibition Laws

The government of Ekiti State under Dr Kayode Fayemi has directed that extra 1000 copies of the Gender Based Violence (GBV)prohibition laws be printed as Human Rights Activists and other Stakeholders in the State have joined the rest of the world to commemorate Year 2018 sixteen days of activism against Gender Based Violence(GBV).

Speaking in Ado-Ekiti, the Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Women Affairs, Social Development and Gender Empowerment, Mrs Peju Babafemi said the campaign, spearheaded by the wife of the Governor , Erelu Bisi Fayemi would lapse next week Monday, December, the 10th. Mrs Babafemi, who disclosed the theme for the year campaign to be “Orange the world:#HearMeToo#”, explained that the annual GBV campaign was designed to galvanize women and girls around the world.

The Agenda Setting Forum on Gender Based Violence as part of the grand finale would hold on the final, Babafemi further stated.

She stressed that the forum would address issues bordering on implementation of Gender Based Violence Prohibition laws with the purpose of putting a final stop to violence against women as well as highlight the roles of Civil Society Organisations in ending violence against women.

The Permanent Secretary added that the forum would also address the challenges confronting the implementation of the law.

Other Programmes scheduled to hold during the period include discussion sessions on Radio and Television and on-line Campaign.

Expected Participants at the discussion media programme would involve representatives of the Nigerian Police, Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), NGOs, seasoned civil servants and politicians.
