Super Falcons head coach, Thomas Dennerby has insisted that his team has a good chance of making it beyond the group stage at the next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in France despite being in a tough Group A with hosts France, Norway and Korea Republic.
The draw ceremony for the 2019 Women’s World Cup tournament took place on Saturday in Paris.
The nine time African champions have made it past the group stage only once in the history of the Women’s World Cup, and face a daunting task in Group A against some of the super powers in women’s football.
But Dennerby, a Swede, is confident his team can scale through the hurdle and progress further in the competition.
“I think we have a good chance to get to the knock-out stage,” reads a Dennerby’s quick take on the FIFA Twitter handle concerning Nigeria’s Group in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The Nigerian ladies will begin their France 2019 campaign against Korea Republic on Saturday, June 8 at the Stade Auguste-Delaune, Reims.
Their next fixture will be against Norway on Wednesday, June 12 at the Stade des Alpes, Grenoble.
Dennerby’s charges will be up against hosts France in their last group game on Monday, June 17 at the Roazhon Park, Rennes. And the Nigerian ladies are now expected to start preparation in earnest ahead of their Wold Cup campaign.
The winner and runner-up from the six groups of France 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup will automatically progress to the round of 16.
The four third-placed teams to accumulate the most points will also advance to the knockout stage along with the group winners and second-place finishers.
The 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup will be held in 10 different stadiums across nine different cities in France.
The competition will run from June 7, 2019 to July 7, 2019.
