As Nigerians joined others across the world to usher in the new year, the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Suraju Ishola Adekunbi, has tasked them to pray for sustained peace, unity and smooth electioneering to advance the development of the nation.
Adekunbi gave the advice in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr Waheed Akinola to commemorate the new year.
He stated that the prospect of any developing nation would be better achieved if the people obeyed laid down rules and regulations, positing that all patriotic Nigerians need to continue to contribute to the promotion of mutuality, respect for rule of law and religious and ethnic diversity to aid national cohesion.
Expressing his heartfelt wish for a better year for all, the Speaker assured that the 8th legislature in the State would continue to perform its legislative responsibilities with a view to consolidating on the rebuilding mission of the State.
According to him, as an arm of government, the welfare and interest of the people of the State remained paramount, hence the collaboration with other arms of goverment at ensuring the successes of the Senator Ibikunle Amosun led administration in the State.
Adekunbi further expressed confidence that the present administration remained irrevocably committed to serve the people through the implementation of more all-inclusive policies and programmes that would put in place enduring legacies also for the future generations.
Commenting on the forthcoming general elections, the Speaker urged politicians and other stakeholders to guard against utterances, actions and inactions capable of heating the polity, stressing the need for the State to retain its leading position in the promotion of peace and tranquility among the comity of States in the country.
