Chief Adebayo Adelabu, the gubernatorial candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has declared that he will reverse the dual ownership status of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso (LAUTECH) if elected during next month’s gubernatorial election.
Adelabu made this declaration while participating on a live radio programme at Splash FM Radio station in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State.
The former Central Bank of Nigeria Deputy Governor also spoke further on the LAUTECH issue “It is not acceptable to me that LAUTECH belongs to two states. Our elders will say in this kind of situation that the university belongs to nobody. This is why I will try my possible best to make sure that the University is released fully to Oyo State. After this, we will then turn it around.
“You see, LAUTECH used to be the best state university at some time. Our government will ensure that it returns to its past status.”
The Adelabu scion also took time to talk about his plan to make sure that tertiary institutions in the state become really self-running.
In his submission on teachers, he said “Teachers under the government of Oyo State under our government will, in addition to enjoying prompt payment of their salaries, we will also give them extra bonuses. This is very important to me because I know our children spend more time with the teachers than with parents”.
On how he emerged as the gubernatorial candidate of APC in Oyo State, he said “there was no rancour. We are all together. All my fellow aspirants are with us now. There is no victor or vanquished. We held a primary election and I was asked to represent the party. All my colleagues, most of them are accomplished professionals and they have all agreed with the leadership of the party to work for our victory. Our leader, Senator Abiola Ajimobi is ready too.
Adelabu again spoke about the three sectors that will attract his attention most. His words “I will pay attention to health, agriculture and education. In addition, I am young, the youths will be able to relate with me frequently and I know that the population of the state is made up mainly of youths.
“On infrastructure, we are going to have the circular road. Industrial development will take place along that corridor. If it encroaches on peoples’ properties, it will be minimal. Those affected will be fully compensated.
“Permit me too to say here that our people should come out during the days of election to vote for APC candidates at the levels of state House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate and my humble self. I can assure that Oyo State will attain the greatest heights under our government. We have done it before, we will do it again. I am an achiever and God is also with me.”
