Prophet (Dr) Samuel Kayode Abiara, renowned evangelist of Christ Apostolic Church, Agbala Itura has warned candidates contesting in the coming elections and their supporters against the use of hate speeches so as not to further heat up the polity.

He also counselled politicians to be humane in their activities to ensure peace at the poll and to accept the results of the elections in good spirit.

These were contained in his new year’s goodwill message, released on Saturday in Ibadan.

He said: “All of you should refrain from using words that hurt (hate speeches) …. I also want every political party and aspirant to be prepared to accept whatever the outcome of the elections is.”

On the ongoing negotiation over a new national minimum wage, the cleric advised the government to accede to the demand of labour, observing that the workers’ demand was not too much.

He warned that the economy could be crippled if labour went on the strike.

“I want to use this medium to advise the Federal Government to do something reasonable about workers’ salary.

“The government should not allow them to go on strike because it will cripple the economy.

“The N30,000 workers are asking for is not too much, because the prices of things have gone up, especially food items,” Abiara observed.

The prophet further urged the government and other well-meaning Nigerians to help the less privileged, in order to get the backing of God.

Drawing insight from Prov. 11:24-25, Abiara advised that it was by giving to the needy that their wealth would increase.

“If you want the backing of God Almighty, you must fear Him and make the poor, orphans, widows and the jobless people happy,” he said.

Abiara also advised his church members to be diligent so as to excel in the new year.

“Don’t be lazy this year. Work and work. What is your plan this year? Last year you did not set any goal. This year, you must set a goal, have a plan and commit them into God’s hand. He will help you. You will succeed,” he said.
