Dr Ayodele Fayose, the immediate former governor of Ekiti state and the Peoples Democratic Party’s Campaign Coordinator, Southwest, has disclosed that Oyo state will witnessed a new dawn as from May 29 this year when the gubernatorial candidate of his party, Engr Seyi Makinde is sworn-in as the next governor of the state.
Fayose made this declaration on Monday during the flag-off of Oyo state gubernatorial campaign and presentation of party’s flag as symbol to candidates into various political offices in the state.
On the campaign train was the party’s chairman in Oyo state, Alhaji Kunmi Mustapha, deputy Gubernatorial candidate, Engr Rauf Olaniyan, Makinde’s wife, Omini, three senatorial candidates of the party; Honourable Mulikat Akande-Adeola, Chief Bisi Ilaka and Dr Kola Balogun.
Others were Senator Hosea AyoolaAgboola, Dr Saka Balogun, Honourable Samuel Adejumo, Chief Bayo Lawal, Chief Jumoke Akinjide, Alhaja Bose Adedibu, Alhaji Bisi Olopoenia, Chief Jacob Adetoro,
While presenting the party’s flag to Makinde, Fayose said “It’s a new dawn in Oyo state in 2019. Makinde is our man, a brother who has relied only on God to fulfill his dream of governing Oyo state.
“In governance, red pen signified authority. I used for eight years in Ekiti state, today, I present this red pen to Seyi Makinde in the mighty name of God you have been crowned as the next governor of Oyo state and I present this flag on behalf of our party, PDP and the leaders.”
The former governor also declared that the presidential candidate of the party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar will be declared as President, Federal Republic of Nigeria come February 16, 2019. He urged the people not to entertain any fear, but urged them to go out and vote for PDP, just as he said he has been vindicated that President Muhammadu Buhari cannot offer Nigeria more than this.
“Alhaji Atiku Abubakar will be declared as President of Nigeria, exercise no fear, just go all out to cast your votes. Politics is a day’s journey, do not allow an enemy’s day money force you into another four years of slavery. Buhari must go back to Daura, if he likes, let him continue with herding his cows or relying on his benefits from this four year tenure.”
At the palace of the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Oladunni Oyewumi, Ajagungbade III, Fayose said “we are here to accompany our governor, Seyi Makinde and won’t like to take your time. And we know that our brother, Makinde has good intention for Oyo state.
“He knows he cannot do it alone, this is the reason he solely believes in God to get to the throne and he also believes in you. He believes so much that this community and its Ogbomoso people will support his ambition. Though kings don’t play politics but you have the wisdom, knowledge and understanding to manage situations of where things are going which we your subjects don’t know.
“We have tasted oil and water in Nigeria, if they had not allowed Muhammadu Buhari to rule this country, when he eventually dies, they will throng his grave that he is the best president Nigeria never had. But thank God he has ruled us now and we can identify left from right. We have witnessed hunger and see how people are suffering but we pray that this will be his end.”
Makinde standing before the crowd reiterated what he said at the palace of the Soun of Ogbomoso that he will govern with the fear of God if elected as the governor of the state and promised to ensure equal distribution of wealth and infrastructure to all zones of the state.
The campaign team had earlier paid a courtesy visit to the heads Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Ogbomoso North and South chapters at The holy church of Cherubim and Seraphim, Oba l’Olorun headquarters l, Oke-Sunsun, Arowomole, Ogbomoso and a visit to the chief Imam of Ogbomosoland and its environs, Sheikh Alamo All Yekini Asafa Sanusi Adegboyega, at his mosque in Masifa area, Ogbomoso.
The party chairman, Alhaji Kunmi Mustapha also presented flags to 14 candidates contesting for House of Representatives and 32 candidates for Oyo state House of Assembly.
He then urged the people of the state and Ogbomoso in particular to throw their weight behind the candidates of PDP in all the elections coming up in February and March this year.
One of the party’s leaders in the state, Dr Saka Balogun enumerated reasons why the people of the state should vote for Seyi Makinde as their governor, stating that he now has the support of party leaders across the state and the country at large.
Former Minister state, FCT, Jumoke Akinjide appealed to youths in the state to see the gubernatorial candidate of the party as their role model and work for the party’s success in the forthcoming election in the state.
She said “Our gubernatorial candidate. Seyi Makinde and his wife are youths who are approachable to you. He is a success model who will also want you to succeed by implementing it as head of government in this state. Also, Makinde and our presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar are businessmen who have the professional idea of how to run government in a way that it will naturally create jobs to solve unemployment problem in Oyo state and Nigeria.”
