- As PDP Dominates State’s Assembly With 26 Members
The candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Engr Seyi Makinde has been announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner of the gubernatorial election held in Oyo State on Saturday.
Makinde, was declared winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC Returning Officer, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, who is also the Vice Chancellor of University of Lagos on Sunday evening.
The declaration was made after the collation of results from all the local government areas in the state.
The PDP candidate won in 28 of 33 Local Government areas in the state.
PDP polled a total of 515,621 votes more than double the 357,982 votes secured by his rival, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Adebayo Adelabu.
While explaining the delay in the announcement of South West Local Government, Barrister Mutiu Agboke said that INEC will continue to embark on operations that is in tandem with rules and regulations and electoral guidelines established by the commission.
He commended the good people of Oyo State, security operatives, traditional rulers and all that have contributed in one way or the other to the success of the exercise.
Barrister Agboke declared that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP secured 26 seats in the State House of Assembly election, while All Progressives Congress, APC secured five seats and Action Democratic Party, ADP secured only one seat.
Meanwhile, the governor-elect will address the media on Monday morning by 8a.m. This was disclosed by his Personal Assistant, Alhaji Akeem Azeez on Sunday evening.
