Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo has thanked his teammates and the coaching staff of the Nigeria team after emerging top scorer of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Following a seven-goal return in just four games, the Shanghai Shenhua star became the top marksman in the AFCON qualifiers ahead of Burundi’s Fiston Abdul Razak (6 goals), and Comoros’ El Fardou Ben Nabouhane and Zimbabwe’s Knowledge Musona who finished with five goals each to their name.
Libya were Ighalo’s favorite opponents during the AFCON qualifiers, with the Super Eagles number nine finding the net five times in two matches.
The 29-year-old Ighalo was presented with a cake by his teammates and Super Eagles officials to celebrate finishing as the top scorer.
And in his reaction, he said : ”I want to thank everybody for this good gesture.
”But I dedicate this to the team because without the team it won’t be possible, I want to thank the coach for the opportunity and all the staff for all the good work”.
Ighalo scored in the recent 3-1 win vs Seychelles and was also on target against the Islanders in September 2018.
