The Oyo State House of Assembly has sent to signal to abortionists in the state to desist from the act or get charged with murder.
The state assembly at Thursday’s plenary passed into law a bill to provide legal framework and encourage family planning and maternity service in the state into law.
The bill, Oyo State Family Planning, Reproductive Health and Maternity Service, 2017, was according to the Chairman, House Committee on Health, Hon. Silas Okunlola, is to encourage family planning, which ensures enough space are given to number of children a couple decides to have.
He stated further that the law was also designed to address issue of illegal termination of pregnancy, saying that violators may be charged with murder.
His words, “The law is trying to encourage family planning in the state, because when we have healthy family, we will have healthy state.
“The law will also address area of pregnancy termination, we understand that many people have been involving in it, there is need for check to prevent loss of lives and agony experience as a result of such.
“The law only recommends abortion for people as recommended by medical personnel in order to save their lives”.
Hon. Okunlola enjoined relevant agencies to try as much as possible to ensure full implementation of the law for the benefit of the state.
