As part of the activities marking this year’s Children’s Day, the National Association of French Teachers, Oyo State Chapter, in collaboration with Alliance Francaise Ibadan organized quiz competitions, drama and songs in French for senior, junior secondary schools and primary pupils in Ibadan and environs.

Nicolas Micheland, the director for Center for French Teaching and Documentation, (CFTD), South West zone in his remark said the event was organized to encourage people and pupils that are learning French.
He claimed that French language is very important to Nigerians because the country is surrounded by French speaking nations, and anyone that could speak both English and French would have better opportunity to communicate especially in the more competitive market.
“As you know that French language is very important to Nigerians because the country is bordered by many French speaking nations, hence there are opportunities for people that are proficient in both English and French languages to stand out in market that are more competitive”.
“I was impressed with the performances of the pupils today considering the limited numbers of hours that they are being taught French languages per week in schools, which I think required extra efforts by their teachers, but the outcome of the result today is quite encouraging” Micheland noted.
He, however, thanked Kayrom Lee Gym and Fitness Centre that was their major sponsor and some books’ publishers from Lagos, saying foods and gift items gotten from the sponsors were distributed to the pupils and their French teachers.
