Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State...

The much awaited Wednesday, May 29, 2019 is here and Oyo, Ogun and Lagos states are joining other states in Nigeria to usher in new administrations.

We join others in the southwestern part of Nigeria to welcome Governors Oluseyi Makinde, Dapo Abiodun and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Oyo, Ogun and Lagos States respectively.

There is joy and felicitation in the air but we should make attempts to look positively ahead and ensure that we all offer prayers on behalf of these great individuals as they assume duties to join their brothers, Governors Gboyega Oyetola, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and Kayode Fayemi of Osun, Ondo and Ekiti States respectively.

Prayers and concerted efforts are needed so that these leaders collectively can surmount a major problem that has come to abide with the people of the Southwest of Nigeria.

What are we talking about here? We are referring to the rising wave of kidnappings in the land. From Akure, to Ado Ekiti, back to Ilesa, Osogbo, Oke Ogun, Ibadan, Ijebuland and Ikorodu, farmers, commuters and others are being kidnapped for ransom by elements highly suspected to be Fulani bandits.

Those who have been lucky to have survived ordeals with these violent characters have recounted how these bandits carried out their nefarious activities.

According to accounts, almost 95 percent of those attacked confirmed that the hoodlums are Fulani young men. They also confirmed that they used to boast that ‘nobody can arrest us because Abuja is protecting us’. Accounts have also confirmed that they are in possession of brand new ‘AK47’ riffles.

It is therefore important that southwesterners need to pray and co-operate with these governors as they join efforts to tackle this insurgents who are pretending to be kidnappers fleecing the citizens of the western region.

Now is time for actions to be taken, governors of the region need to bring unity to Yoruba Council of Elders, Odua Peoples Congress and other strategic organs needed to galvanize and mobilize frontiers to cordon off the region from invaders.

Long live the Western Region of Nigeria, long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
