The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), Ekiti State Branch after a brief meeting held in Ado Ekiti recently has appreciated and commended the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi for appointing two of its prominent members as his Aides.

This was part of the decision made during the brief meeting to rejig and resuscitate the foremost Human Rights Organization in the State ahead of its upcoming National Congress that will be held later in the year.

It will be recalled that the Human Rights Organization went into oblivion as a result of some unexpected and unavoidable skirmishes experienced due to leadership crisis.

Governor Kayode Fayemi had, a few weeks ago appointed Comrade Bisi Dada as a ranking Commissioner in the State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) and Comrade Biodun Oyeleye as the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Civil Societies Matters.

The Human Rights Organization equally commended the Fayemi-led government for its various positive initiatives in the areas of providing lasting and endurable infrastructures for the state through road construction, making and advocating policies that has direct impact on the ordinary citizens on the streets, introduction of free education policies for the state, regular payment of workers’ salaries since he assumed office for his second term, step by step restoration of the lost values and image that the state is well known for and the peace and serenity currently been enjoyed throughout the state to mention a few.

The meeting urged the Governor to intensify efforts towards ensuring that security of lives and properties are taked more serious than ever before because of the increasing spate of kidnappings, activities of Fulani herdsmen, ritualists’ activities, banditry, armed robbery in the communities among others.

The Governor was also commended for the various measures put in place by the Ministry of Justice to checkmate the activities of rapists, human traffickers, child labour and abuse of women in the society.

CDHR also commended the Governor for spearheading the campaign against open defecation in the state through the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Environment and the office of his Senior Special Assistant on Public Health.

His efforts to ensure that the idea of state security trust fund is re-organised and re – introduced into the state’s system to enable adequate provisions are made for the security agencies in the state to be more effective and efficient.

CDHR also noted with the great concern the stern warning issued out to all the Southwest Governors by the Aare Onakankafo of the Yorubaland, Otunba Gani Adams during the recently held DAWN Commission Security Summit in Ibadan, Oyo State Capital not to try to give out any part of the Southwest land to any Fulani herdsmen as a welcome development and a step in the right direction.
