  • Sentenced To One Month Imprisonment With Options Of Fine

A 400 level Law Student of the Ekiti State University in Ado Ekiti by name Awe Simi was among the 30 people who were arrested, charged and sentenced to one month imprisonment with options of fine depending on the degree of their offences by the Magistrate Court sitting presided over by Magistrate Timothy Abe in Ado Ekiti for contravening the Ekiti State Environmental Laws.

The environmental law offenders were apprehended and clamped down upon by the officials of the State Ministry of Environment in Ekiti State while monitoring the June edition of the state environmental sanitation exercise in the state.

In the charge-sheets read by the prosecutor (name withheld), the following people were arrested, apprehended, charged and sentenced to a one month imprisonment with options of fines depending on the magnitude of the offences committed.

Those prosecuted included: “Jimoh Azeez (M) 26yrs, Ayomide Ayoola (F) 24yrs, Oyelere Abiodun (M) 22yrs, Jiyah Christopher (M) 22yrs, Aliu Otaya (M) 42yrs, Ibrahim Umar (M) 29yrs, Omope Tobi (M) 20yrs, Ademola Tola (M) 20yrs, Segun Afeni (M) 24yrs, Ojo Olubunmi (F) 33yrs, Olaleye Ahmed (M) 31yrs, Victor Omotoso (M) 21yrs, Matthew Sunday (M) 30yrs, Ayodeji Obateru (M) 31yrs, Sunday John (M) 31yrs, Awe Simi (F), Bali Busola (M) 20yrs was said to have ran away, Jeremiah Konko (M) 20yrs, Ogundana Emmanuel (M) 20yrs, Najibu Aliya (M) 25yrs and Jimoh Limus (M) 19yrs.

Others are Olanipekun Tinuola (F) 27yrs, Olajide Mojisola (F) 24yrs, Adebisi Aarinola (F) 24yrs, Oyinloye Adekunle (M) 26yrs, Olayinka Sehinde (M) 29yrs, Ayanfe Damilola (F) 21yrs, Olusola Adesola (F) 21yrs, Saheed Agboolu (M) 36yrs, Omosola Anthony (M) 19yrs and Ugwuanyi Lucky (M).

All those who appeared in the court were alleged to have failed to participate in the state monthly environmental sanitation exercise for the month of June except Awe Simi, a 400level student of the Ekiti State University in Ado Ekiti who was sentenced to a one month imprisonment with option of fine of N2,000 and one Ugwuanyi Lucky with option of N5,000 fine while all others were made to pay a sum of N3,000 fine each. Both Awe Simi (F) and Ugwuanyi Lucky (M) were alleged to have obstructed the environmental health officers while on their official duties. Awe Simi was specifically alleged to have dumped refuse indiscriminately during the sanitation exercise.

As at the time of filing this report, all those who were apprehended have paid their fines and cleared accordingly by the court.
