Popular Nigerian actor and comedian, Afeez Oyetoro, popularly known as Saka, has been thrown into mourning following the death of his favorite niece, Ikeoye Oyetoro, an Information Officer with Ibadan North-East Local Government, Oyo State.

Ikeoye’s death was announced in the early hours of Friday, October 2, 2026, leaving family members, colleagues and associates mourning the loss of the local government information officer.

Activities

Until her death, Ikeoye Oyetoro was actively involved in the dissemination of official information and public communication for Ibadan North-East Local Government, with her name appearing on a number of statements issued by the council throughout 2026.

Ikeoye also signed a July 2026 statement in which the council reacted to the release of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area. The statement reflected her continuing role in communicating the council’s official position on significant developments in Oyo State.

Her death therefore comes less than two months after she was publicly active in her official capacity, underscoring the suddenness of the loss to colleagues and those who worked with her.

The relationship between the actor and the deceased has been described as that of uncle and niece. However, details concerning Ikeoye Oyetoro’s age, immediate family, cause of death and funeral arrangements were not immediately available from publicly verifiable sources at the time of this report.

Oyo NUJ Mourns

Meanwhile the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, has expressed shock and sadness over the death of Ikeoye Oyetoro, in a condolence statement jointly signed by the Chairman, Mr Akeem Abas, and the Secretary, Temidayo Adu, the union described her death as a painful loss to her immediate family, colleagues, friends and the journalism profession.

The union also noted her active role as a stakeholder in the Association of Local Government Information Officers (ALGIO), which has recently transitioned into the Conference of Local Government Information Officers (COLGIO), Oyo State Chapter.

According to the council, her contributions to the professional community would be remembered by members of COLGIO and the NUJ.

The Oyo NUJ described her demise as a significant loss to the local government information management community, the journalism family and the wider society.

The statement further commiserated with the Oyetoro family, colleagues, and associates, urging them to find strength in the memories of her life and contributions to the profession.

The union said her passing had left an irreplaceable void among those who worked with and knew her, particularly within the local government information management community.
