Check Out Names Of  Chairmen Of 109 Reps’ Standing Committees As Announced By Gbajabiamila

Rt Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, has officially announced the Chairmen of 109 Standing Committees of the house.

Gbajabiamila made the announcement on Thursday at the end of plenary in Abuja.

He said the Public Account Committee would be headed by Rep. Wole Oke, while Rep. Mouktar Aliyu will chair Committee on Appropriation adding that the Committee on Nigerian Army will be chaired by Rep. Abdulrazak Namdas.

For Banking and Finance Committee, Gbajabiamila announced Rep. Victor Nwokolo as chairman, while the Committee on Communication would be headed by Rep. Akin Adeyemi.

Gbajabiamila said that the Defense Committee would be headed Rep. Jimi Benson while Federal Judiciary Committee would be headed by Rep. Luke Onofiok.

The speaker announced Rep. James Faleke as Chairman of the Committee on Finance while the Committee on Interior would be led by Rep. Nasril Daura.

He said the Committee on Health Institutions would be led by Rep. Paschal Obi while Committee on Anti-corruption would be headed by Rep. Nicholas Shehu.

The Committee on Solid Minerals would be headed by Rep Micheal Okon, while Committee on Sports would be headed by Rep. Olamide Osoba, the speaker said.

At the end of the announcement, members were seen in various group discussions while others thronged the speaker’s seat in what seemed to be a protest.

Earlier before reading out the names, Hon Gbajabiamila had appealed to all those who were unable to get chairman and deputy of various Standing Committees to take it in good faith.

In the All Progressives Congress (APC) produced 85 Chairmen, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 20, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) 2, while Action Alliance and APM produced 1 each.

The House also resolved to proceed on two-month recess and to resume on 17th September 2019.

Contrary to the expectations of many lawmakers and political analysts, the name of Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, who was the chairman Gbajabiamila and Wase Campaign Organisation, a committee that worked for the emergence of the current leadership was not mentioned in the list reeled out by the Speaker.

According to the list, Hon. Wale Raji (APC-Lagos) was named as Chairman, House Services; Hon. Abdulrazak Namdas, chairman Committee on Army; Hon. Aliyu Betara (APC-Borno) as chairman House Committee on Appropriations;  Hon. Abiodun Faleke (APC-Lagos), Chairman House Committee on Finance, Hon Yemi Adaramodu (APC-Ekiti) Youths Development, Hon Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo (APC-Ondo) Niger Delta Development Commission, Hon Ibrahim Isiaka (APC-Ogun).

As earlier mentioned, Hon. Wole Oke (PDP-Osun) was named as Chairman House Committee on Public Accounts while Hon. Abdullahi Bago (APC-Niger) who contested against Speaker Gbajabiamila was appointed Chairman House Committee on African Integration and Cooperation.

Hon. Jerry Alagbaso was appointed as Chairman Public Petitions; Hon. Nasir Daura as chairman House Committee on Interior; Hon. Pascal Obi as chairman House Committee on Health Institutions; Hon. Luke Onofiok as chairman House Committee on Federal Judiciary; Hon. Akeem  Adeyemi as Chairman House Committee on Communications; Hon. Jimi Benson as Chairman, House Committee on Defence; Hon. Aisha Dukku as Chairman House Committee on Electoral Matters; Hon. Yusuf Buba, chairman House Committee on Foreign Affairs; Hon. Yusuf Kila as Chairman House Committee on Customs; Hon. Hadija Bukar Ibrahim as chairman House Committee on North East Development Commission; Hon. Tunji Ojo as chairman House Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission; Hon. Tajudeen Abbas as Chairman House Committee on Land Transport; Hon. Johnson Ogbuma as chairman House Committee on Environment; Hon. Munir Baba as chairman House Committee on Agricultural Production and Hon. Adamu Faggae as chairman House Committee on Constituency Outreach.

Others are Hon. Nicholas Mutu, Chairman House Committee on Gas; Hon. Victor Nwokolo as Chairman House Committee on Banking & Currency; Hon. Bello Kumo as chairman House Committee on Police; Hon. On July 16, Rep. Yusuf Gagdi (APC-Plateau) member of the ad hoc Committee on Media and Publicity said the house would announce the 102 standing committees in September when it returns from its two-months recess.

Only the House Service Committee was put in place to enable the house service check into the offices of members lacking electricity or furniture before the house returned from recess.

The speaker, however, announced the Standing Committees during the plenary on Thursday.
