The Oyo State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has described the death of ex-sports presenter at the Nigeria Television Authority Mr Akinloye Oyebanji as a huge loss to the SWAN, sports fraternity and the entire Nigerian journalism industry.
In a condolence message jointly signed by its Chairman, Mr Niyi Alebiosu, and its Secretary, Mr Adewale Tijani, Oyo SWAN recalled that Late Oyebanji was a role model for young sports writers, having exhibited high level of professionalism while in active service.
“We regret that the veteran sports journalists died when sports writers were making efforts at raising money to save his life. It is sad that he finally died during the illness,” it said.
The body of sports journalists in Oyo state called on Media owners to always undertake insurance policies for their employees to prevent the reccurrence of such death in the future.
It commiserated with the family of the deceased, his former colleagues, Kwara SWAN, NUJ and sport journalists across the globe on his demise, praying that God grants them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
