The government of Dr Kayode Fayemi in Ekiti State has revealed funds to school heads in the state to assist in the running of the citadels of knowledge in the state.
In addition, the State’s Commissioner for Education Science and Technology, Mr. Foluso Daramola has warned that any school head, teacher or staff caught sabotaging the free education policy of the Governor Fayemi-led administration in the state would be severely dealt with.
Mr. Daramola gave the warning in Ado-Ekiti while distributing cheques for running grants for the first, second and third terms of 2018/2019 academic session to Head Teachers of public primary schools across the 16 local government areas of the state. The Commissioner stressed that any staff found collecting illegal fees or levies from pupils in public schools or aiding such in the state would be treated as a saboteur, affirming that basic education in the Ekiti State is free and compulsory.
He disclosed that the Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has promised to give an upward review to the present running grants to public schools to enhance effective teaching and learning as well as engender smooth day to day running of public schools in state.
Responding on behalf of others, the Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers in Ekiti West Local Government Area of the state, Mr. Adeoye Ajayi thanked Dr. kayode Fayemi for the gesture, noting that this was the first time in the history of the State that the state government would pay running grants to the public primary schools.
He promised that school heads would make judicious use of the fund and will also continue work in collaboration with the state government to take education to higher ground.
