Hundreds of Okada Riders in Ado Ekiti, the capital city of Ekiti State trooped out to protest the exorbitant fees imposed on them by their Union leaders in the State.
The Okada Riders took their protest to the Ekiti State House of Assembly Complex where they called on the Dr Kayode Fayemi-led administration to proscribe their union.
At the time the protesters got to the Ekiti State House of Assembly Complex in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State Capital, the Rt. Hon. Speaker, Barrister Funminiyi Afuye was on his way out. Before leaving, message was sent to the protesters by the Speaker informing them that they should make their grievances available formally to his office.
The Okada riders in their hundreds trooped into the Assembly Complex in annoyance to vent their anger against their Union’s leaders and were shouting on top of their voices that they don’t want any union over them again.
They maintained that they prefer that the State Government should take over the role their Union leaders play over them.
The Okada Riders at the Assembly Complex complained bitterly that their union leaders are only collecting union dues to make merry at beer parlors and enrich their pockets and that of their families.
They appealed to the Speaker to come to their rescue and bail them out from the bondage of illegal fees their Union leaders collect from them.
The Okada Riders who touched places like the Voice 89.9fm, NTA, Governor’s Office and the Ewi’s Palace all in Ado Ekiti terminated their rally at the popular Ejigbo roundabout in Ado Ekiti.
They unanimously called on the State Government to ban the Okada Riders Union and declared that they are tired to continue to stay under the current leadership of the Union in the state.
The Okada Riders during the protests equally demanded for the immediate stoppage of the booking fees of N2,000 paid per day, the N500 identity card fees and the immediate proscription of the Okada Riders Union in the State.
